Loved: the specificity of details in jokes about Physics. Gotta love a nerd.
Wanted: more playfulness, risk and breaking of routine in delivery, especially w/ four different characters played by one actor.
Watch if: dark matter or physics or crawlspaces interest you.

Funeral for Clowns

This beautiful, undeniably ingenious show is a revelation in disgusie. What a captivating premise! A boatload of potential! An uber-talented cast. And social commentary of the best kind — the one that hits you in the gut, not the face. I might watch this one again. And I am definitely going to be keeping track of these clowns.

The “twist” really isn’t a twist, and I suppose that’s good. Some scenes were sort of pathetic. Things moved fast but the show felt long. The show tries to be really clever, and, at least for me, it missed that by a long shot. Some cringe-worthy moments with a joke bordering on homophobia and one about a battered wife. And if they were supposed to establish character…well…they didn’t, really. The actors (specifically Adam, although he is quite endearing and funny) seem to be channeling versions of themselves. That’s just me though. Do watch if you like a good old campus relationship story with some couple-kissing/couple-switching and those darn pretentious visual artists

Right? Well, in Bad Connections you’ll find 9 characters. And every single one is believable to the core. Every single one wants something, like all characters should, and needs something, like all characters should, and reveals something that skewers, changes, or enlightens the audience in some way or form. Did I mention it’s one-man show?

Watch this. It’s a lesson in acting, if anything. 90 minutes and there wasn’t a single second where I was bored or not connected to what was going on.

I thought, ‘hey! it’s Pinter, It’s got to be good’. Well, here’s the thing. Pinter’s got a deceptive layer of simplicity curtained all over his work. Everything beneath that is a massive net of complexities.
